Hey all you loyal readers. I see you all, sitting there, refreshing the browser page, over and over, trying to get a new blog out of the Film Munkey site. Well, you have refreshed in time my friends. I bring to you the word of the good and the word of the awesome, Movie News. Woo hoo!
Samuel Bayer is supposedly not even remotely interested in returning to direct on the sequel to Michael Bay's remake disaster waiting to happen,
Nightmare on Elm Street. I applaud him for this notion. But he has hinted at working on one of my favorite properties that no one is touching and for the life of my I don't know why:
"There’s a comic– I’m sure my agent would kill me for this, because I’m sure I’m not supposed to talk about it or whatever, but I don’t really care, is that– no, my assistant is shaking her head. No. No? No? I was going to mention a project. Shut up? Okay. I’m doing what people tell me. Yeah, I’ll bury myself with this one. There’s some very, very cool stuff out there. I’m really into graphic novels and really into the superhero genre, and I really think there’s some interesting stuff going on, and I think that’s what I’m leaning towards."
Wow, wasn't that a cock tease? Oh wait, what's this, there's more?
"There’s one comic book I really dig that I want to go after that’s bad-ass. I’d like to get it, it’s called The Boys. It’s about a group of mercenaries and they’re job is to kick the shit out of superheroes who get out of line. It doesn’t get any better than that. In the world of The Boys, superheroes are scumbags. My youngest brother is a comic book historian and he introduced me to a lot of graphic novels like “The Dark Knight.” There are some great books I don’t think people have tapped into yet."
Woot. If you're a comic reader than there is only one title that comes to mind after reading that:
Here is a description from the first trade paper back collection of
The Boys.
“This is going to hurt! In a world where costumed heroes soar through the sky and masked vigilantes prowl the night, someone’s got to make sure the “supes” don’t get out of line. And someone will! Billy Butcher, Wee Hughie, Mother’s Milk, The Frenchman, and The Female are The Boys: A CIA-backed team of very dangerous people, each one dedicated to the struggle against the most dangerous force on Earth - superpower! Some superheroes have to be watched. Some have to be controlled. And some of them, sometimes, need to be taken out of the picture. That’s when you call in The Boys!"

Joe Quesada, Marvel Comics editor in Chief, has confirmed that Zak Penn (whoo hoo) has finished a draft of the script for their purposed epic hit film,
The Avengers. I'm gonna be pissed if Hawkeye and Henry Pym aren't in it just because there wasn't already a movie about them. The movie is slated for May 4th, 2012.

People online have been talking about this for a while but it seems that director Edgar Wright has stepped up and confirmed that in his highly anticipated, upcoming film
Scott Pilgrim Vs. The World that the movie script takes a turn away from the original books, around book #3. Wright said this:
“After three volumes, it starts to take its own path, but very much within the spirit of the book — and approved by Bryan as well. … There are some things that are in the film that are actually from Bryan’s original ideas before he wrote the books. [So] there are some things in there that refer to older ideas which he didn’t end up doing. It’s ironic, because there will be a couple of scenes when people will say, ‘That’s not in the book,’ but actually, if you look at these notes from 2005…”
Fans shouldn't worry too much though. It's getting almost
universal praise from the test screenings. Every agrees that even thought the script is not
Watchmen-like accuracy that the mood and feeling of the film hits the story dead on the head.

I'm really not one to prop the big boys of the film/movie/tv world but when I see a good deal I do acknowledge it.
Amazon.com has a great deal right on a year subscription to
Entertainment Weekly for only $10.
Not the best film magazine, in fact, I wouldn't rank it in my top 5 for paper-mags, but it's still movie shit and that is worth something for $10.
