Hot chick, geeky guy? No shit.

Judd Winnick scores again. Pretty damn good.

Once again, Morgan shows us that he shouldn't be allowed in movies.

127 Hours Trailer

by Junk 27. August 2010 08:38
You know, when new movies are announced, I usually don’t get too excited. Unless it’s a name I recognize like making one of my favorite comic books in to a movie or TV show (ie, Walking Dead, Scott Pilgrim or Locke and Key). When movies are first announced there is little more than who is attached to the project, a basic log line and a few facts (maybe it’s based on a book, or a real life event, or just some keen idea). So all in all, I don’t get too excited even if there is an actor I like attached to it, or a cool log line.

But when a director I love is attached to a new project, I don’t go balls out excited, but I keep an eye on it, on the back burner if you will. And that’s what I was doing with 127 Hours. Directed by Danny Boyle (Trainspotting, 28 Days Later, and that abortion of a film Slumdog Millionaire), directed a “based on real life events of” movie, and usually that tends to make me go “I could give 2 fucks and hen.” I usually don’t give a shit about “real life” movies. And I FUCKING hate it when I am talking to people and they say “it was such a good movie because that really happened!”

Oh really, Captain Fuck-wit? So everything happened just like that? Just like the movie? All those special effects were just renditions of what really was accounted for? All those words were dead on, 100% accurate? No extra drama was added, or alcoholism was taken out? Fuck me, Super Dick, history books can’t even get dialogue and events correct and it’s written by people who do it for a living.

Anyway, I digress. Even though this movie is based on real life events, it still looks entertaining, not because it’s based on real life events, but because the direction and acting looks good. Here’s the trailer.

Walking Dead Official Trailer

It's roughly the same trailer that premiered at Comic Con last month, with a little extra footage. And of course in clear quality. Halloween this year will be spent at home, my friends!

Something to look forward to...

by Ritiland 17. August 2010 12:47

I was sitting down the other day trying to think of what to blog about. American remake of a girl with some kind of reptilian tattoo? Junk's got it covered. Movie review? Nah, The Other Guys isn't out yet. Scott Pilgrim and how awesome it was? I think this past week's JunkCast basically covers that with style and cool effects. So what to talk about, what to talk about.

Oh yeah! A month ago I had the notion (suggested by Junk and a few of his guests that I'm sure you'll meet on his podcasts who are personally in the middle of making movies, traveling to film, writing the next big script and all that jazz) that Hollywood isn't the only place talent is found. E! isn't the only place that has celebrity news. We had creative film makers, actors, writers and other crew members right here, in rural Illinois! Well, probably closer to the big bright Chicago, but still! So many people, myself included, think that if Will Ferrell didn't touch it or it doesn't take place in a wizarding school full of emo young wizards with cute accents, scars, scraggly greasy black hair hanging in their eyes and magic wands... wait, what? Oh, yeah. Most people don't know that outside of the mainstream movies, a whole world of amazing cinema is waiting to be found! And in an effort to fix that...

I contacted someone who I've never met but Facebook with often, someone who had a line longer than FilmMunkey's of fans to take photos with her at Wizard World, someone who is extremely talented and, as you'll find out, very gracious. She is a Scream Queen, a Lord of the Rings geek and a workaholic.

She is Deneen Melody and she's the first in a (hopefully!) series the Munkeys hope to put together to introduce talented people and movie makers with an audience that might not know who they are and interestingly, I think these people have a LOT to offer in the way of "Here's how it happens, here's what there is to making a movie."

Credit: Jeff Hughes

Deneen Melody was kind enough to answer each question with detail and description. I'm going to get it together and give her a spotlight of about 2 weeks to get all her answers put right here on our blog. Every few days, I'll update with more questions and answers, some HAWT photos, video clips, links, shout outs and insight! How cool is that? I'll leave you with some more photos for now, but look forward to meeting Deneen, local hottie, fan of Star Wars, resident gorehound. Yes, people. It's going to be fun! And if you wanna brush up on your Deneen filmography and tweets, you can be ahead of the rest when we kick this off next week!

*As a side note, if any photos or videos are incorrectly credited, please let me know and I will correct it immediately. And if you are involved with film at any level and would like to be interviewed for this series (it's easy - by email!) please contact us to let us know. We'd love to cast a spotlight on filmmakers and talent! Email to FilmMunkey (at) gmail (dot) com with "I'm cool! Interview me!" in the subject line and I, Ritiland J. Scott Pilgrim Animation

by Junk 14. August 2010 06:21

Premiering on Adult Swim as I was wathcing the movie in the theater on Thursday night, was the Scott Pilgrim Animation.

This short animates the volume 2 flashback, and as you can see, is based very much on the art of Bryan Lee O’Malley. As in the film (released today; read Adam’s review here) Michael Cera plays Scott, Allison Pill plays Kim, and two other actors switch things up, playing different roles here than in the movie. Mae Whitman plays Lisa and Jason Schwartzman plays Simon Lee.
